My Mk2 Escort project was only ever going to end up being painted in bright red. It's red on the log book, red looks brilliant on Mk2 Escorts, and (whilst not a replica) I take a lot of inspiration from Colin McRae's own car.
Question is, what paint code should I try and source? What's everyone's opinion on the brightest shade of red?
I'm leaning towards the red applied to the RS Audis (at least its some sort of RS colour), but would appreciate peoples opinions of what they think is a really bright red ..... Availability and cost would have to play a part in the decision process.
Dog nob red is always good for resale.
Should find it on most colour charts.

Formula Red Pearl! It's the paint they used for the Honda NSX.
Absolutely beautiful colour, but probably not the cheapest.

'Ferrari' red ?
Not a serious suggestion but your question did remind me of my last visit to the parts counter at my local motor factors.
young lad comes in and asked for some paint to be mixed up, its 'ferrai such and such silver' oooh ahh says behind the counter chappie righto.
I happened to follow the lad back out to the car park where he got intohis (ferrari such and such silver no doubt) barried up punto. i suppose it was Italian at least.
I think most modern paints are pretty good but i guess it might be worth checking whether the red manufacturer you do choose is known to be fugitive at all, some (vauxhalls spring to mind) seem to fade very quickly.

Not sure on the exact name, but I always quite liked the red MG used:
A very rich red, but looks it's brightest in direct sunlight, a bit darker than some others otherwise, but to me always more red than other reds if you know what I mean. Too many seem to be a bit too orange or a bit too much yellow in the paint mix.

Misano Red can look quite bright, and Audi offered it on a wide range of cars so you shouldn't have difficulty getting hold of some.

Start a poll
I like the cherry red on the Peugeout 106 GTi.

VW Mars Red is a bright tomato red or alternatively BL Vermilion which sways more towards the orangey scarlet spectrum.
If you want a Ford colour, there is always Torch Red:

Ford Radiant Red? Can't find any good pictures of it though. It use to be very common on Fiestas and even more on Escorts. Should be cheap as chips and very easy to find touch-ups.

I've always liked Super Red II from Toyota, as seen on the MK3 Supra and some MR2s, I think Super Red I is nice but there's not a lot of difference and should be quite widely available.
Super Red II (3E5) - The picture doesn't do it justice
